In 2022, Senegal's annual estimated postharvest losses were 156,953 tonnes for rice, 93,122 tonnes for millet, 122,917 tonnes for maize, 40,863 tonnes for sorghum. The highest and lowest estimated postharvest loss percentages are 16.3% for maize and 9.0% for millet.

Within the value chain, for all crops the majority of loss is estimated to be happening at harvesting/field drying. Within Senegal, the highest postharvest losses in tonnes occur for rice in Kolda, for millet in Kaffrine, for maize in Kolda, for sorghum in Kaffrine. Regarding the nutritional losses, the estimated rice grain lost postharvest could have met the annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements of 657,301 people.
