Senegal's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2021 was 102,072 tonnes or 8.9% which had an estimated value of more than 49 million US dollar.
As for nutrition 371 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 445 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Kaffrine.
