Sudan, All cereals, 2022

In 2022, Sudan's annual estimated postharvest losses were 640,564 tonnes for sorghum, 147,962 tonnes for millet, 61,301 tonnes for wheat. The highest and lowest estimated postharvest loss percentages are 12.9% for wheat and 8.8% for millet.

Within the value chain, for all crops the majority of loss is estimated to be happening at harvesting/field drying. Within Sudan, the highest postharvest losses in tonnes occur for sorghum in Blue Nile, for millet in Darfur, for wheat in Blue Nile. Regarding the nutritional losses, the estimated sorghum grain lost postharvest could have met the annual energy (kcal) dietary requirements of 2,562,522 people.
