Burkina Faso, Millet, 2009

Burkina Faso's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2009 was 103,581 tonnes or 10.7% which had an estimated value of more than 35 million US dollar, which corresponds to 1.6% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 377 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 456 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Boucle du Mouhoun.
