Chad, Sorghum, 2012

Chad's estimated postharvest losses for sorghum in 2012 was 75,385 tonnes or 11.6% which had an estimated value of more than 35 million US dollar, which corresponds to 0.5% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 259 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 317 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Threshing and Shelling, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Chari-Baguirmi.
