Malawi's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2011 was 3,862 tonnes or 11.7%.

In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Market storage, and then Winnowing. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Southern Region.
