Ghana, Millet, 2007

Ghana's estimated postharvest losses for millet in 2007 was 12,611 tonnes or 11.2% which had an estimated value of more than 6 million US dollar, which corresponds to 0.1% of national agricultural GDP.

As for nutrition 45 billion kcal were lost, which is the equivalent of more than 53 thousand people, in terms of annual nutritional dietary energy requirements. In the value chain, the majority of the loss is estimated to be happening at Harvesting/field drying, Winnowing, and then Transport from field. Highest estimated postharvest maize losses in tonnes were estimated to occur in Upper East.
